How is it possible that I forgot about the library? I grew up in a town with one of the best libraries in the country and then when I moved, suddenly I never went anymore. Part of the problem was that I moved from a place where people love and support libraries (Ohio has a lock on the top 10 thanks to great funding) to a place where people just buy things (Los Angeles). Another part of the problem was that I went to college and forgot that libraries aren't just places for exam cramming and boring references. The rest was laziness: the library closest to me just doesn't have great hours.
Two things made me recently rediscover the library. First I needed an out of print novel (ie not available at B&N) for a book club, and second, I needed to make a baby sweater. I could have tracked down the novel but then I would have had to pay shipping. And crafters know that pattern books are not cheap--particularly for items you will likely only make once. So I finally got smart and found the library closest to my office so I could just go during lunch. Find your closest library here. It turns out my library has an enormous art books selection and getting my card took less then 5 minutes.
So it may seem obvious for a person on a budget, but even I needed a reminder: the library has FREE BOOKS (just remember to return them on time!)

Good reminder that I should get my next book club book from the library. Especially since I have one at my work!
